Tell us a little about yourself (family, job, sports, military interests, etc.)
I grew up in Houston, went to college at U of H and pretty much lived there my entire life until I moved to VA about 3.5 years ago. I work in the Human Resources field. I’m probably one of the few non-military/government people at the box. Long ago in high school I ran cross country and attempted to play soccer at one point (only because it involved running). I’m one of four kids and definitely have middle child syndrome.

What were you doing before CrossFit?
In Houston, I did an outdoor boot-camp for years and ran a lot in my spare time.

What were your thoughts after your first CrossFit workout?
Love at first WOD.

What were your goals when joining CrossFit?
I wanted to learn how to lift properly and tone up. I had the cardio part down but running and lifting is a whole other thing.

Have you achieved any of those goals?
Yes and then some. I can lift heavy things now! 🙂

Has CrossFit affected your life outside the Gym?
YES. I’m more assertive and challenge myself more often. Also, being fit helps with self confidence.

Do you have any other special memories/achievements during your time here?
I could name all of my physical achievements but the best memories are all of the people I’ve met since joining and how they have truly become like family. Especially since my childhood friends and family live so far away.

What advice would you give to a newbie joining New Day CrossFit?
Just be open to the entire experience!

Something you might not know about me is?
I have no clue what my name means. My mom randomly saw it in a newspaper article and decided on that name.

Swinda is an awesome person, athlete, and representative of New Day CrossFit. Her consistency and persistence to improve her strength, conditioning and skills have transformed her into one of the top athletes at the box

We are honored to have Swinda as a part of our New Day family. She brings out the best in everyone at the box.
